VARANASI AIRPORT

The Varanasi Airport, which is known as Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport is situated at Babatpur, approximately 18 km northwest of Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh. The Varanasi Airport is one of the most important airports in the state. There are two terminals at the Varanasi Airport each for domestic as well as international passengers within the same premise. Shops selling silk and handicrafts, books and magazines, food are available. Duty free shopping is not available at the Varanasi Airport.

Varanasi Airport provides a variety of other facilities too including free of charge baggage handling facility to senior citizens as well as wheel chair for the physically challenged. A cargo terminal is available in the Airport and is located around ½km away from the premises of the Varanasi Airport.

Varanasi is an important religious tourism destination in India in terms of Hindu beliefs and is well connected by major flight operators. The city of Varanasi is very popular for its temples and is thronged by large number of tourists who come here to take a dip in the holy Ganga, the Ganges River.
